Are Eurostar Tickets Refundable? Rules, Fees and Deadlines
The short answer is yes—but the deadline and fee depend on your travel class.
Standard and Plus tickets are refundable at least seven days before departure for a $40 fee per passenger, per leg. Premier tickets are refundable without a fee until 48 hours after the original departure.
Eurostar tickets are more flexible than many travelers expect, but that flexibility disappears quickly as the departure date approaches. Before canceling, check the fare name, the date and where you bought the ticket.

Standard and Plus refund rules
Standard and Plus follow the same basic cancellation policy. A refund is available when you cancel at least seven days before departure. On the US version of Eurostar’s website, the fee is $40 per passenger for each leg, or $80 per passenger for a round trip.
Inside the final seven days, these tickets normally become non-refundable. If two people cancel a round trip early enough, the total fees could reach $160. That makes it worth comparing the refund with the cost of changing the journey instead.
Premier gives you a much wider window
Premier tickets can be refunded without a fee until 48 hours after the original departure time. The flexibility is useful when your schedule is uncertain or you have a separate international connection.
Premier also includes a same-day boarding guarantee, subject to availability. You may move to another train on the original travel date without paying the fare difference, although a specific seat or identical onboard service is not guaranteed.
Changing a ticket may be better than canceling
Standard and Plus tickets can normally be changed without an exchange fee until one hour before departure. You pay any increase in fare, but Eurostar does not return the difference if the new train is cheaper. The destination cannot be changed.
If you move a Standard or Plus ticket to a later date less than seven days before the original departure, that ticket becomes non-refundable.
What if Eurostar cancels the train?
Operator disruption is different from a voluntary cancellation. If Eurostar cancels your train—or announces a delay of more than 60 minutes before departure—you can choose not to travel and request a refund for the unused ticket.
Eurostar currently gives affected travelers three months to choose between a free exchange, a voucher or a refund. Booking and earlier exchange fees may not be returned. The full process appears on Eurostar’s refunds and compensation page.
Compensation if you still travel
If you take the train and arrive at least 60 minutes late, you may qualify for compensation. Cash compensation starts at 25% of the affected leg for a delay of 60 to 119 minutes. Eurostar vouchers are usually more generous, but they tie the value to a future booking.
How to request your refund
- Open Eurostar’s Manage Your Booking page.
- Enter the six-letter booking reference and passenger surname.
- Select the journey you want to cancel.
- Review the refund amount and fees before confirming.
- Keep the confirmation email until the money arrives.
Phone or station requests may add a $20 service charge per transaction. If you booked through Trainline, Rail Europe or another retailer, contact that company. The original seller normally handles the refund.
Frequently asked questions
Can I cancel on the day of travel?
Standard and Plus are normally non-refundable by then. Premier remains refundable until 48 hours after the scheduled departure.
Is there a free 24-hour cancellation period?
Eurostar does not advertise a general 24-hour cooling-off period for every fare. The ticket conditions apply from purchase.
Are SNAP tickets refundable?
No. Eurostar SNAP tickets are non-refundable, non-exchangeable and non-transferable.
Can I cancel one leg of a return?
It may be possible, but Eurostar can recalculate the amount to account for the return discount. Check the displayed refund before confirming.
The practical answer
Cancel Standard or Plus at least seven days before departure and expect a fee. Inside that window, changing the ticket may preserve more value. Choose Premier when schedule flexibility matters enough to justify the higher price.
