London to Paris by Train: Time, Tickets, Prices & Eurostar Guide

London to Paris is one of those routes where the train makes immediate sense. There is no airport transfer at either end, luggage stays with you, and the train arrives in central Paris. The part that catches first-time passengers out is that Eurostar is not a turn-up-five- minutes-before-departure train: you pass ticket gates, security and two border controls before boarding.

How long does the train from London to Paris really take?

The headline rail time is 2 hours 16 minutes on the fastest services. Some departures take a few minutes longer, so use the time shown for your chosen train rather than treating 2:16 as a promise for every departure.

There is also a one-hour time difference: Paris is one hour ahead of London. A departure and arrival printed three hours and twenty minutes apart may still represent roughly two hours and twenty minutes on the train. This is the most common reason a timetable looks slower at first glance.

For realistic door-to-door planning, add 75 minutes at St Pancras for Standard or Plus, then allow time to reach the station. Once you arrive at Gare du Nord, there is no second border process—you can walk directly into the main station. For most travelers, the station-to-station experience is closer to three and a half hours including the recommended arrival buffer.

Where do you catch Eurostar in London?

Eurostar leaves from London St Pancras International, beside King’s Cross. The station is served by six London Underground lines at King’s Cross St Pancras, plus buses, Thameslink and other National Rail services.

Follow signs for Eurostar departures rather than the domestic platforms. Your sequence is simple: scan the ticket, pass airport-style security, complete UK and French border checks, wait in the departure lounge, then board when your train is called.

Where does the train arrive in Paris?

The train arrives at Paris Gare du Nord in the 10th arrondissement. From there, RER B runs towards Châtelet–Les Halles and the Latin Quarter, while RER D, Métro lines 4 and 5, buses and taxis cover other parts of the city.

Gare du Nord is busy and can feel chaotic after a quiet train journey. Decide how you will continue before arrival, keep your phone and wallet secure in crowded areas, and ignore anyone offering unofficial ticket help.

How much is the train from London to Paris?

Eurostar’s official fare table lists London–Paris Standard tickets from €44 each way when the fare is purchased as part of a return. Eurostar’s US route page advertises one-way fares from $55. Those are entry prices, not an average: a Friday evening, holiday weekend or last-minute departure can cost several times more.

The three current travel classes are:

• Eurostar Standard: the lowest-cost option, with assigned seating, two large bags and access to Eurostar Café.
• Eurostar Plus: more space and a light meal served at your seat on routes to and from London.
• Eurostar Premier: lounge access, priority gates, a premium meal and the most flexible journey experience.

How to find cheaper Eurostar tickets

1. Search flexible dates. Moving by one day can matter more than changing the time by one hour.
2. Compare early and late departures. Convenient business-travel times often sell faster.
3. Avoid peak weekends when possible. Friday evenings and Sunday returns tend to attract more demand.
4. Book directly. Eurostar says online and app bookings avoid the €14 service fee charged for Standard and Plus bookings made by phone or at the station.
5. Read the flexibility rules. Saving €10 is poor value if your plans are likely to change.

Passport, API and border checks

London–Paris is an international journey between the UK and the Schengen Area. Bring a valid passport or another travel document accepted for your specific situation. Luggage rules on London–Paris trains

Adults in Standard and Plus can currently bring two pieces of luggage up to 85 cm long plus one small item of hand luggage. You keep your bags with you and store them in the racks; there is no normal airline-style checked-baggage process.

That freedom has one practical limit: you need to lift and manage your own bags. A compact case is much easier on the train, through Gare du Nord and on the Paris Métro than two cases packed to their maximum size. Eurostar also allows ordinary liquids without the airport 100 ml limit, but prohibited-item rules still apply.

What the journey feels like

Seats are assigned, so there is no rush to claim one. Trains offer power sockets and free Wi-Fi, although connectivity can drop inside the Channel Tunnel and in rural areas. You can bring your own food and drink or buy snacks from Eurostar Café.

The train runs through Kent, enters the Channel Tunnel, then continues across northern France. The tunnel section is dark rather than scenic, but it passes quickly. If you want to work, read or eat, the overall experience is calmer than combining an airport transfer, security queue, flight and arrival transfer.

Train or flight from London to Paris?

A flight can look shorter when only airborne time is compared. For central London to central Paris, Eurostar usually removes more steps and uncertainty. Flying becomes more logical when you are already at an airport, connecting onward by air or find a fare that remains cheaper after baggage and transfers.
