Rail passes

A rail pass is useful only when it fits the itinerary.

Compare the total cost of passes and tickets, including compulsory reservations and the value of flexibility.

Count travel days and reservation fees

A pass price alone is not the full trip cost. Add compulsory reservations, premium trains and any local journeys that are not covered before comparing it with advance point-to-point tickets.

Value is not only the lowest price

Travelers with a changing itinerary may reasonably pay more for flexibility. Travelers with fixed dates can often save by booking the most expensive high-speed legs early.
