Which stations should you choose?

Paris Gare de Lyon

Direct southbound high-speed trains normally leave Paris Gare de Lyon. Do not confuse it with Gare du Nord, where Eurostar arrives from London, or with Lyon Part-Dieu in the city of Lyon. The full station name on your ticket should say Paris Gare de Lyon.

Nice-Ville

Nice-Ville is the city’s main station and the useful arrival for central accommodation, the tram network and onward regional trains. The seafront is not directly outside the station, but it is reachable by local transport or a manageable walk for travelers without heavy luggage.

How to find cheaper Paris to Nice tickets

1. Compare TGV INOUI and OUIGO for the same date.
2. Check the complete fare after luggage and seat options.
3. Search morning, midday and evening departures.
4. Book early for summer, weekends and school holidays.
5. Read the exchange and refund rules before payment.

This route is strongly seasonal. A fare available on a quiet weekday does not predict the price for a Friday in July. If your dates are fixed, compare the train before committing to non-refundable accommodation.

Luggage: TGV INOUI and OUIGO are different

TGV INOUI currently allows either two suitcases plus one small item, or one suitcase, one special item and one small item. Standard suitcase dimensions are limited to 90 × 70 × 50 cm, and the small item to 40 × 30 × 15 cm. You must label and carry the luggage yourself.

Is the Paris to Nice train scenic?

The first hours are mainly a fast cross-country journey. The most memorable views arrive in the south, where parts of the route after Marseille and Toulon run near the Mediterranean and the Côte d’Azur. Expect a mixture of coastline, towns, tunnels and inland sections rather than uninterrupted sea views.

Train formations can be reversed, and the line curves around the coast, so a specific seat side cannot guarantee the best view. A window seat improves your chances, but journey time and fare conditions matter more than chasing one seat number.

Train or flight: which is better?

The train takes longer than the scheduled flight, but it connects central Paris with central Nice and removes airport transfers, security and boarding gates. It is often the calmer choice when the journey itself can be used for reading, work or rest.
